A NEW MOM — AGAIN!

ivy-second-trimesterivy-sam-webAnd so the journey continues.  Becoming  fit  truly is a lifelong  journey and a choice that I have to make every day.  After struggling with fertility issues, I was blessed with the miraculous birth of my new baby girl!  For anyone that has or is thinking of having children, then you can relate to the rollercoaster of emotions you feel during this time.  I was having a baby 16 years after my first child!! I’m older now and the thought of having to learn to balance time and a new baby is daunting. I gained almost 50lbs during my pregnancy, double what is “normal” and 3 months after the birth of my second baby, I had to dig deep, still another 20lbs to lose!  I committed myself to a 3 month program, 4-5 days per week.  I did it, by the time my baby was 6 months old, I was back into my old jeans. Being fit and being a new mom, is definitely a challenge, it is so easy to put yourself last on the list, and your schedule is no longer yours to dictate. But what guess I have to find a way, I have to make it work, now more than ever my family needs me. Being a FIT MOM is a responsibility that I have to my family and to myself.

My Challenges and Triumph

Ivy green

Hello, as you may have heard from my video… my name is Ivy and I am a Brampton Personal Trainer and this is my story.

Growing up, I was a natural athlete, playing a variety of sports. However, a decade ago, I was faced with a series of personal challenges and health limitations. As a result, I stopped exercising and became inactive. It seemed that suddenly, my small frame, gained more than 30 lbs and I slowly lost my zest for life.

I looked at myself in the mirror and no longer knew I was. My clothes didn’t fit,  I cleverly hid my body in photos, since I didn’t like looking at myself. Sometimes, I would justify my weight to myself, make excuses and find reasons for my decline in health and fitness. Unbelievably the scale kept tipping, I was up yet another size and nothing fit — I knew I had to draw the line. I made a powerful decision to make a change.

I decided to take a stand for my health and vitality. With that, I finally had the courage to rediscover and reinvent myself.

Though I had always been active, I found that this time around, I needed something more to encourage my commitment.  I was so de-conditioned that I couldn’t do an ab crunch.  I had searing back pain! Day by day I started exercising again, then hired a personal trainer and learned all I could about the benefits of proper nutrition and regular exercise.  Since embarking on my new adventure, I lost all of the excess weight and never put it back on.

The experience has had an enormous impact on my spirit. Since conquering this challenge, I made a new commitment to helping others reach their fitness goals. That’s why I started iPower Fitness, to let other women know that it can be done.

I share my story because I have a personal connection with women who are struggling with weight loss.  I’ve been a single mother for many years, struggling with constraints, from the lack of time, money and health.  What I learned from it all, was that I could not do it alone, that its okay to reach out and ask for help. That its not selfish to take care of me, in fact, its my RESPONSIBILITY.

This isn’t just about looking good, it’s about personal development, its about having good health. I can’t take care of anyone without taking care of myself first. With my strength – anything becomes possible.
